If you’re the proud owner of a fifth wheel, you know it’s crucial is to rest your camper on a flat surface. After all, you don’t want balance as they walk through the RV. Parking your rig on a bumpy surface can also be harmful to your refrigerator since it needs to be on flat ground to operate safely. We have put together a few tips for leveling your fifth wheel!

Locate a Flat Parking Space

This might seem obvious, but it is often one of the first things travelers forget! Before detaching your fifth wheel, make sure the spot you’re on is flat. You can use the exterior bubble levels on the RV for reference, but we also suggest placing a carpenter’s tool on the kitchen table.

Use Leveling Blocks

Now it’s time to pull out the leveling blocks. While still hitched, place the blocks underneath the tires on the downhill part of the fifth wheel. We recommend picking up some blocks from the store as opposed to homemade options. This will ensure that you can raise your RV in one-inch increments. Next, place the blocks directly in front of fifth wheel tires and slowly pull forward onto them. Then, level from front to back.

Once the fifth wheel is parked on the blocks, chock the wheels and unhitch the rig. Level from front to back by raising or lowering the camper’s front jacks.

Next, extend the rear stabilizing jacks just enough so that you prevent rocking. If you are parked on a soft camping surface like dirt, it’s a good idea to place blocks underneath the jacks for extra stabilization.

We hope these tips help you successfully level your fifth wheel. If you still have questions or want to check out our selection of fifth wheels for sale, contact Sterling Trailer Sales today. We are located in Dunmore, AB, and proudly all those in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and Brooks.
