You’re almost ready for your vacation. You’ve got your campsites booked, your food packed, and your family ready to go. But are you forgetting something? Your RV needs to be supplied with safety equipment!

Hopefully, your trip goes as smoothly as planned, but accidents happen. Those are not the times to be caught off-guard, and a little preparation helps you to be ready for anything life throws your way.

Detectors and Alarms

One often overlooked class of safety equipment is detectors and alarms. Just like your house, your RV should be fully covered by smoke detectors. You’ll also want to make sure you have carbon monoxide monitors, too, as well as a propane gas alarm. Modern RVs often feature a number of propane-powered appliances, including the fridge, oven, and furnace, which means there’s a greater chance that something will eventually have a leak. A propane alarm can alert you to any problems before they happen.

Tire Pressure Maintenance

Safe driving involves proper inflation of your tires. Overinflated tires have less contact with the road. Underinflated tires won’t be able to properly handle the pressures placed on it. Both of these issues interfere with your ability to safely drive your RV. They can increase the chance of a blowout and can wear down your tread (which decreases your ability to maintain traction on the road).

Sure, you could manually check the tire pressure, but this is an incredibly tedious process that you might not want to do often enough for it to matter. A better solution is a tire pressure monitoring system. As you drive, you will get updates on your tires. These can be as frequent as minute-by-minute. The monitoring system logs data over time. This makes it easy to analyze changes and catch irregularities that might be problematic.

Water Pressure Regulation

When you use a campsite’s water, you run the risk that their water pressure may be too intense for your plumbing system. If this happens, you could face expensive water damage to your pipes. A water pressure regulator adjusts the water so it comes in at an ideal pressure for your RV. This will also make your showers more pleasant!
